Principal's Weekly Message

Posted Date: 04/03/26 (03:11 PM)

Edna Families–

It’s been a great week leading up to Spring Break. We’ve had the Variety Show on Sunday (thank you PTA, volunteers, and performers), ducklings visit our TK Art classes, Gold Rush Day for our 4th graders, and a student assembly, in addition to filling our brains with more knowledge and learning experiences. What a week! Glad we have next week to recover from everything. Based on today’s attendance numbers, it’s obvious that next week is Spring Break and schools will be closed. We look forward to everyone’s return to Edna on Monday, April 13th.

Have a safe, restful, and eventful Spring Break,

Daniel

Ducklings in TK Art!

Gold Rush Day for 4th Grade!

Thank you PTA for sponsoring our Gold Rush Day. Thank you to our 4th Grade Teaching Team (Ann Eshoff, Jessica Tran, Sasha Vargas, and Katie Ward) for coordinating this memorable event. Thank you 4th Grade Parents for volunteering for this great event.

Student Assembly!

Our Student Council/Assembly Squad (SCAS), made up of 4th and 5th graders, under the tutelage of Tara Ordonez, Katie Ward, and Daniel McCord, hosted another student assembly today. Students learned more about Mr. Green (Garden Educator), welcomed back Mrs. Albin (our TOSA overseeing the intervention program–TLL), watched teachers guess what items were in the Mystery Box, were reminded of appropriate lunchtime behavior, watched the 3rd and 4th grades sing "Rainbow Connection" under the direction of our Music Teacher (Mr. Win), and cheered on their community with the song “We Are, We Are Edna!”

Lost and Found:

With cool mornings and warm afternoons, our Lost and Found area quickly grew over the past couple of weeks. Please make sure to check the Lost and Found over the weekend. Next week all remaining items will be donated to local non profits.

Food Drive:

Many, many expressions of gratitude for the donations that came in for the Food Drive hosted by our SCAS group. These donations will help many in Marin County.

Plastic Film Packaging Recycling Drive:
SCAS continues hosting a recycling drive, hoping to keep as much plastic film as possible out of the landfill. Plastic film includes plastic grocery bags, plastic padded envelopes, plastic food wrapping, storage bags/sandwich bags, among other items. You can drop off your plastic film items anytime until May 4th, when it will be collected.

If you would like more information about what we will be collecting, how you can collect and recycle these items at home, as well as questions on how these items are recycled, please check out this link: Edna Ridwell Drive. While we do not promote any particular company, we do promote environmental stewardship.

Carline:

Thank you for remembering, upon the return from Spring Break, to appropriately use the carline at drop off and pick up. Never leave a car parked at the curb in front of the school. This blocks the flow and backs up the carline, resulting in late students and irritated drivers. Also, there are only two lanes in the carline. Never try to thread in between two cars ahead of you in the carline. Additionally, please follow the directions of the painted arrows throughout the parking lot and carline. Thank you for modeling safety to our students.

Lunchmaster Orders:

Be sure to place your breakfast and lunch orders by Monday, April 6th, which is the deadline to place orders for the week of April 13-17.

Budget Presentations

On March 10, 2026, the Board of Trustees held a budget study session in the Middle School library to review the district’s budget history, consider the current fiscal outlook, and discuss key questions as we plan for the 2026–2027 budget. The session brought together representatives from across our community, including teachers and classified staff (MVTA/CSEA), district and site administrators, and parent and community partners from Kiddo!, PTA, BAC, and DAC. A copy of the presentation from the session is linked here.

Trustees rotated among small group discussions to listen to perspectives on several topics, including reserve levels, whether to include a Cost of Living Adjustment (COLA) in long-term projections, considerations for addressing the projected deficit, and ways to improve transparency and confidence in the budgeting process.

To continue the conversation, district leaders will host school site meetings with parents in April and a districtwide staff meeting to share information and gather additional feedback.
