Principal's Weekly Message
Happy May Day Edna Families! There are only six weeks to go in the school year and things are moving right along. We had a great week of learning and sharing our learning, and look forward to continuing this with the time we have left in the 25/26 school year.
For the SciFi nerds like me out there, Monday is May 4th, as in "May the Fourth be with you." Please send your little Ewoks to school in your favorite Star Wars related gear, t-shirt, etc.
See you Sunday at the Spring Faire!
Daniel
TK Dance:
Earlier this week, our TK students showcased what they’ve been learning to those they invited. Thank you for sponsoring this enrichment, Kiddo! And thank you to our Kiddo! donors for making this happen.

3rd Grade Poetry Cafe:
Our 3rd graders also showcased what they’ve been learning recently about poetry. They served their guests helpings of poetry, which were graciously received with support, love, and applause. Thank you for sponsoring this enrichment, Kiddo! And thank you to our Kiddo! donors for making this happen.

PTA Spring Faire: One of our biggest and best events of the year is this Sunday. We look forward to seeing many of you and your students there. Thank you in advance to our PTA volunteers without whom this event would not be possible.
This fun, community-wide event depends on volunteers—there’s something for everyone, from face painting to crafts to helping with games and activities. Middle and high school siblings are welcome to volunteer, too.
We will have food for purchase and don't miss out on our Bake-Off competition. Contact Melina for details or to submit your entry: melina.koutsouveli@gmail.com
Please sign up for a volunteer shift and help make the day a success!

Moving to another school next year?
For our current TK-4th grade families: If your student will not be returning to Edna next year, please email me (dmccord@mvschools.org). This will help us better plan for the next school year. Thank you.
Class Placement for 2026-2027:
At this time of the year, families begin to think ahead to the next school year. As the end of the year nears, we are hard at work planning for the upcoming school year. Part of that process includes assigning children to their new classes. We take into account many factors when forming class groups. We consider gender, learning styles, social and academic strengths and challenges, friendships, work habits and diversity, among many other variables to create equitable classroom communities. Children are at the center of our process and teachers consider each individual child. Our aim is to create an optimal learning environment for all students at Edna Maguire and at all elementary schools throughout the school district. As such, this same message is being shared, or has been shared, with families throughout MVSD, and all schools are adhering to it.
We respectfully ask that parents do not request a specific teacher or friend for their child. There are far too many interrelated factors to be considered when constructing classes to be able to accommodate a particular placement. It is very difficult to successfully build balanced classes on the basis of parent requests. Teachers take the process of class placement for your child very seriously, and we ask that you trust our process and professional judgment. Please do not put teachers in an uncomfortable position by making a request. Thank you for your cooperation.
Plastic Film Packaging Recycling Drive:
SCAS continues hosting a recycling drive, hoping to keep as much plastic film as possible out of the landfill. Plastic film includes plastic grocery bags, plastic padded envelopes, plastic food wrapping, storage bags/sandwich bags, among other items. You can drop off your plastic film items anytime on Monday. It will be collected the following day.
If you would like more information about what we will be collecting, how you can collect and recycle these items at home, as well as questions on how these items are recycled, please check out this link: Edna Ridwell Drive. While we do not promote any particular company, we do promote environmental stewardship.

The Connection Corner
As we begin wrapping up the school year, the DEI Committee will also be meeting soon to reflect on this year’s efforts and start planning for next year’s events, initiatives, and goals. As we look ahead, we want to make sure our work reflects the needs and values of our school community.
Let’s Get Thinking…
What would help strengthen our Edna community and make it feel even more inclusive and connected?
Are there resources, conversations, or support systems you’d love to see offered next year?
We’re especially curious about ideas around parent and family support, such as:
- Parent networking or support groups
- Virtual meetups for busy families to connect
- Peer to peer parent guidance and shared resources
- Educational conversations around navigating school systems and supportive services
Feel free to share your thoughts anytime at dei@ednamaguire.org.
Together, we can continue building a stronger, more inclusive community for all.
Meet up with the DEI Community
We’d love to hear from you. Feel free to share your thoughts, reflections, or stories with us at dei@ednamaguire.org. Your voice matters. Be part of the conversation.
